Staff News
Mr Michael Hanna has joined our teaching staff and will teach on a regular basis on different classes as required. Mr Hanna will teach Year 2P on Thursdays when Mr Quantrill has his executive planning time. Mr Hanna is an experienced teacher who is excited about teaching at St Anthony’s and being in our community.
2022 Enrolment Period Open
The official enrolment period for Catholic School places in 2022 opens next Monday 3 May and runs through until Friday 28 May. If you have a child you would like to enrol in a Catholic preschool, primary school or secondary school, now is the time. Please spread the word so that we can meet prospective parents and their children and also have them lodge enrolment forms in the required period.
St Anthony’s Preschool and Primary School have a variety of open times for new families or existing preschool families to tour the school and seek information.
Please contact Michelle Woodward, our St Anthony’s ELC Director, for their open days and times.
Cross Country Carnival - Next Thursday 6 May 12.00
Our school Cross Country Carnival is on next Thursday 6 May at 12pm on the Wanniassa playing fields near the school. This is a challenging but fun event for the students, some say character building! Parents can attend and need to adhere to COVID restrictions and hygiene practices. Information is being shared online with parents about the event. Thank you to Mr Quantrill for organising this event as part of this role as sports coordinator.
Mothers’ Day Breakfast and Virtual Liturgy
Sunday 9 May is Mothers’ Day and St Anthony’s is delighted to be offering a breakfast for all mums, grandmothers and special people on Friday 7 May from 7.30am at school. Details have been shared through Schoolzine and rsvp are being taken for ordering breakfast and attending. Please rsvp online by Tuesday 4 May.
Year 2 will also be presenting a special Mothers’ Day Liturgy at 12pm for the school community, which will be shared virtually to parents and carers (due to COVID restricting numbers in our school hall).
Cyber Safety Talk
This week St Anthony’s students in Years 3-6 listened to a planned presentation on cyber safety and how to protect themselves and others whilst using the internet and social media.
The sessions were run by the Australian Federal Police as part of their ThinkUKnow initiative. It is an evidence based education program led by AFP staff with expertise in this area.
The program focuses on:
- Understanding what young children and young people SEE, SAY AND DO online.
- Understanding online challenges.
The program is pro-technology and addresses ways students can access and use social media more safely without giving their personal details, photos or information that will identify them. Online grooming and sexual exploitation are associated risks of using the intranet. Students listened to scenarios about ways young people interact through technology and were made aware of how easily this information can be accessed by other people or result in bullying. They were provided with strategies to reduce some of the online risks and dangers.
This is a good opportunity to have a discussion with your child about their access to online material, games and chat rooms. Ask them about the AFP presentation to kick things off...

New Nature Play Area Being Developed
You may not be aware due its location, but the school is developing a new NATURE PLAY AREA at the back of the school space. This area is perfect for this type of creative and construction play. We have learnt a lot from our first space during the first 3 years of its existence and we have kept some of nature play’s best attributes and added some new and exciting concepts to the play area.
Mr Bradley and the students have spent a lot of time designing the space. Whilst the earthworks are nearly finished, the new area is expected to open in Term 3 2021.
Mrs Ephraums has also designed a new Aboriginal Reflection space, adjacent to the historic and significant canoe tree located at the back of the school grounds. This will add to the cultural and natural focal points in this area.
Here are some photos of the area in development:
Wishing you all the best. God Bless.
